About 3 1/2 years ago , I was diagnosed with eczema or atopic dermatitis. It was very difficult to manage for the first few months. I had no one to give me advice, I was the only one in my family who had eczema. So I had to learn from trail and error. Anyway here are some tips and advice. 1) Find out what triggers your flare ups. For me when there was a lot of pollen in the air, my skin would go crazy. Also , tap water because of the harsh chemical in the water. For others food allergies , pets, and smoke are major triggers. 2) use coconut oil. I have oily skin so putting on heavy lotions would make me feel sticky and nasty, so I use coconut oil. Its amazing, my skin would be moisturized for the whole week. I didn't have to keep reapplying it. 3) getting prescription ointment. Going to the doctor and getting prescription ointment was one the best decisions I have made. My flare ups would be gone in a week. Yes, I know medication can be expensive , but to me it was worth the investment. 4) don't let what people say get to you. I can't tell y'all how many times people have asked me " what's wrong with your skin" or have said "look at her skin" to one of their friends. Don't let their comments get to you. Because at the end of the day they aren't the ones who have to constantly put on ointment and moisturized their skin. 5) get rid of products that have harsh chemicals , so like soaps that aren't natural and hypo allergenic. Or lotions that claim to moisturized but really make the situation worst. House cleaning supplies and certain air fresheners need to go. There are alot of companies who dont use harsh chemicals like seventh generation. I buy from a company called attitudeliving.com , they have a lot of stuff for you to check out.
